Your Headshot

For this project you will need a different version of your headshot.  Find the unedited image you used in your Gallery project and place a copy of it in your Elevator project’s images folder.  In your Chrome web browser start PIXLR E and click the OPEN button.  Navigate to your project’s images folder. Select the image and press the Open button.

In the Pre-size image window select the Original option then press the APPLY button.

With your unedited headshot image open, press the [ctrl+A] keys to select the entire image, then press the [ctrl+C] keys to copy it.

Click the [ctrl+E] keys to start a new image. Choose the Ultra HD option (3840 x 2160) then press the CREATE button.

Click the Untitled tab to show your new Ultra HD image. The new image will show a checkerboard that indicates it is completely transparent.  Press the [ctrl+V] keys to paste your headshot.

Press the W key to select the Wand Select tool.

Click in the background of your headshot near your face.  You should see a moving dotted-line (known as marching ants) indicating which areas of the image have been selected.

If any parts of the selection include any parts of you (head, neck, torso) press the M key to choose the Marquee Select tool.

For the Type choose the ellipse.  For the Mode choose Remove from selection.

Click and drag within your image to create circles that surround areas that are part of the overall selection.

As you select these areas they should be removed from the overall selection.  Once your overall selection only includes the background, press the [ctrl+X] keys to remove it.  If any parts of the background still need to be removed, you may use the Wand Select or Marquee Select tools, and the [ctrl+X] keys to remove them.

You may also press the E key to use the Eraser tool to remove small areas of the background that are difficult to get rid of.

If you inadvertently remove any parts of your image, press the [ctrl+Z] keys to undo your last action.

The only thing you should see in your new headshot is your head and shoulders surrounded by a checkerboard that indicates the transparent parts of the image.  When all of the background has been removed, press the [ctrl+R] keys to select the Free transform tool.

Reposition your image so it is on the bottom right-hand side.  If it is too large, use the transform handles to shrink it so it appears with the image boundaries.

Press the [ctrl+S] keys to start the Save process.  For the Name enter Headshot with no background.
Select the PXD format then press the DOWNLOAD button.

It may take a moment to prepare your image.  Navigate to your project’s images folder then press the Save button.

Once the file has downloaded press the CLOSE button.

You now need to find an image not used later in your video that represents something about you.  This image will be used as a background for your headshot.  Follow the guidelines to find the image and prepare it for your video.

Once your headshot background has been prepared, open it in PIXLR E.   If the Pre-resize image menu appears, choose the largest size.  In this example it is Ultra HD.

Press the [ctrl+A] keys to select the entire image.  Press the [ctrl+C] keys to copy the image.

Press the [ctrl+O] keys and navigate to your project images folder.  Select your Headshot with no background.pxd and choose the largest size if the Pre-resize image menu appears.

With your Headshot with no background.pxd open, press [ctrl+V] keys to paste your background image.

Use the Layers menu to move your headshot layer on top of all other layers.

If you need to adjust the position or size of a layer, select it in the Layers menu and
press the [ctrl+R] keys to use the Free transform tool.

When your new headshot with background is complete, press the [ctrl+S] keys to start the save process.

For the Name enter Headshot with background.  Select the PXD format then press the DOWNLOAD button.

It may take a moment to prepare your image.  Navigate to your project’s images folder then press the Save button.

When the save is complete, press the CLOSE button.

Press the [ctrl+S] keys to start the save process one more time.  For the Name enter Headshot with background.  This time, select the JPG file type and the HIGH quality option, then press the DOWNLOAD button.

It may take a moment to prepare your image.  Navigate to your project’s images folder then press the Save button.

When the save is complete, press the CLOSE button.
