These steps explain how to use your Chromebook to fill-in and sign an online form.

1. Download a copy of the form

Use your Chromebook to click the link to the form,  Once the form is open, click the Download icon.
(A practice job application form is used here as an example.)

Save the form  to your Chromebook Downloads folder.

Use your Chromebook’s Files folder to find your copy. Double-click to open it.

Fill in the all of the information requested on the form.

Review all information you filled in.  If it is correct and there are no errors, download the file and name this copy using this format:
YOURNAME-ORIGINAL-NAME.pdf replacing your name for YOURNAME and making sure the file name still ends with the .pdf extension.
In this example, the original form name was JLHS-practice-job-app.pdf
and the new name is Jim-Shoes-JLHS-practice-job-app.pdf

Sign the Form

Prepare your signature

Use a plain white piece of paper and sign your signature using a blue pen.
Take a photo of your signature that is in focus and lit evenly.
Email the best quality of the photo to your school email account.
Download the photo into your Chromebook’s download folder.


Visit pixlr.com and click the ADVANCED PIXLR E button.

Click the OPEN IMAGE button.

Navigate to your Downloads folder and select the photo of your signature.  Click the OPEN button.


If asked to resize the image, choose Full HD the click the APPLY button.


If the image needs to be rotated, use the Image Menu Image Rotation option.


Use the Marquee tool and draw a rectangle that only includes your signature, then use the Image Menu Crop tool to reduce the size of the image.


Use the Wand Select tool to click on the white background, then click ctrl+x to delete that part of the background.  Repeat this step until almost all of the background has been removed.


Click on the File menu Save command and choose PNG for the file type.

For the file name type signature-NAME (Replace NAME with your name) then click Download button.

Navigate to your Chromebook class folder then click the Save button.

Repeat the process for any other signatures the form requires.

Add a signature to the form

Open the smallpdf.com/edit-pdf website. If you are prompted to Open Files Directly from Google Drive close the window by clicking the small x in the upper right corner.

Click the CHOOSE FILE button.

Navigate to the folder that contains your filled-in PDF form and open the file.  With your completed application open, click the  ADD IMAGE button.

Navigate to the folder with your edited signature .png file.  Select the file then click the OPEN button.

Use the image handles to resize and reposition the image so it appears on the appropriate signature line.

If your form requires additional signatures, repeat the process.

When the image looks correct, click the FINISH button.

After the file has been processed click the DOWNLOAD button.

Change the end of the file name from edited to signed, making sure to keep the .pdf extension.  When it is correct, click the SAVE button.

You will get a confirmation message when the download is complete.

Find the signed file in your downloads folder and double-click to open it.

If everything is correct, including your signature, send it as an attachment in an email message to the teacher.  For the subject type FORM and in the body of the message type your first and last names and class period.
