There are many people needed to produce a live, multi-camera broadcast. Here is an introduction to the staff required to produced the daily Logan Live! show.

Producer

The Producer oversees the entire production, making sure all other staff members are correctly completing their tasks on time. The Producer works with the Director to plan and create the day’s show. The Producer works with talent to make sure scripts are completed on time and delivered to the prompter.  During the rehearsal and show the Producer monitors the production and lets the Director and Floor Manager know of any changes that need to be made. Director

The Logan Live! Director works with the Producer to plan and create the day’s
show. The Director works with the production crew to make sure all equipment is ready and all show elements (graphics, videos, props) have been prepared. The Director supervises the production staff before, during and after the rehearsals and live show. (Click for details)

Anchors

The Logan Live! Anchors prepare the bulletin announcement script for the show, provide an electronic version to the teleprompter operator; print copies to practice; review their portion of the teleprompter script to make
sure there are no errors; practice delivery during the show’s rehearsal; then
perform the show live. (Click for details)

Weather (Mondays and Fridays)

The Weather talent creates current temperature and forecast, graphics, records a radar video, writes a script, rehearses the show, then performs live. (Click for details)

Words of Wisdom (Mondays and Fridays)

The Words of Wisdom (WoW) talent writes the script, indicates which graphics
need to be created, reviews the prompter script, rehearses the show, then

The Logan Live! Sports Anchors write the script, indicate which graphics need to be created, review the prompter script, rehearse the show, then perform live. (Click for details)

Video Switcher

Operate the TriCaster under the direction of the Director.

Producer Details

Pre-Show Duties

As soon as the production crew is released from the daily staff meeting:
1. Make sure talent is assigned to each show segment as needed.
A. If someone has not done their position before, have an experienced
staff member assist them.
B. Let the graphics artists know who will be doing which show positions so
lower third titles and credits are ready.  Also let them know which announcements will be included so they can all up stock-graphics or create new ones.
2. Meet with the Director.
A. Confirm which segments will be included.
B. Discuss which special videos and graphics are needed.
3. Work with Anchors to write the opening teaser.
A. Review today’s bulletin and choose one or two items that you think
will be of special interest to the show’s audience.
B. Write a one-sentence teaser based upon the announcement.
For example: “Coming up on today’s show: how you can
save $10 and have a lot of fun with your friends. But first, please
stand for the Pledge of Allegiance.”
4. Make sure all scripts and graphics from all talent are delivered on time.
Words of Wisdom and Entertainment scripts and graphics should be ready and delivered to the control room by 8:25. All other scripts and graphics should be delivered by 8:35.

5. Check with the Director.
A. Confirm that all equipment and crew are ready.
B. If there are any problems that you and the rest of the staff cannot
resolve immediately contact the teacher for help.

Rehearsal and Show Duties

1. Make sure the rehearsal starts on time (no later than 8:45 Wednesdays, 9:00 other days)
A. 10 minutes before the scheduled rehearsal start, get all talent onto
the set and confirm with the director that the production crew is ready.  Let the teacher know 2 minutes before the rehearsal starts.
B. During the rehearsal check for script errors, talent errors and
production errors.
C. When the rehearsal ends review with the Director what errors
need to be corrected.
2. Make sure the show starts on time (9:02 Wednesdays, 9:19 other days)
A. When the bell rings to end 1st period, make sure the “Logan Live Next”
video and pre-show music are playing.
C. When the 1-minute warning bell rings, make sure the show is
being recorded.

End of Show Duties

1. Make sure the streaming and show recordings are stopped.
2. Make sure the staff has secured and/or shut-down all items in the control
room and the studio.
3. Congratulate the staff for a show well-done!

Director

Pre-Show Duties

1. Meet with the Producer
A. Confirm which segments will be included and who will do them.
B. Discuss which special videos and graphics are needed.
2. Meet with Production Staff
A. Review with the Graphics Operator and Video Switcher what graphics
and videos will be needed, including lower-third talent names.
B. Get confirmation from Floor Manager that all studio audio and cameras
are ready.

Rehearsal and Show Duties

1. Make sure everything is ready.
B. Confirm with the talent and crew that everyone and everything is ready.
2. Prepare for the rehearsal show.
A. Make sure everything is ready to start by 8:45 on Wednesdays and
9:00 on other days.
B. Have the “Logan Live Next” video playing with music.
3. Start the Rehearsal
A. Say “Stop the music. Ready to roll the open keyed over V2.
Logan Live starts in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. Roll and take.
Ready to zoom V2.”
B. When the open reveals V2, say “Zoom V2. Ready to cue talent.
Ready to open anchor mics.”
C. When the open music ends say “Mics and cue. Ready to roll flag video
on DDR.”
D. At the end of the show’s teaser say “Roll and take DDR.”
During the pledge say “Change Graphic 1. Ready to take V1.”
4. Direct the Announcements
A. When the pledge ends say “Take 1. Set Graphic 2.”
While the 1st announcement is being read say “Ready 3.”
B. When the 1st announcement ends say “Take 3. Change Graphic 1.”
While the 2nd announcement is being read say “Ready 1.”
C. When the 2nd announcement ends say “Take 1. Change Graphic 2”
Repeat alternating between 1 and 3, making sure each graphic is
ready for each announcement.
D. During the last announcement say “Ready to roll (name of next segment)
bumper. Ready mic and to cue (name of talent doing segment.)
Ready 4.”
E. After the last announcement say “Roll bumper.” When bumper ends
say “Mic and cue.”

End of Show Duties

1. Make sure the streaming and show recordings are stopped.
2. Make sure the staff has secured and/or shut-down all items in the control
room and the studio.
3. Congratulate the staff for a show well-done!

Production Staff End of Show Duties

All studio staff:

Turn on the studio work lights.
Bring down the lighting board’s faders then turn off the board.
Power down all equipment.
Make sure all microphones are secured.
Make sure all cables are neat.

All control room staff:

Stop streaming and record functions.
Save stream when prompted.
Turn on room lights.
Turn off task and on-air lights.
Leave the TriCaster on unless directed otherwise by the teacher.
Power down all other control room equipment, including the monitors.
